"Doug is fair and honest and the receptionist is friendly and helpful. He fixed several things with my old Camry and now that I have a new car I have not needed anything, but a minor adjustment which he did with a smile and I didn't even have an appointment. He was highly recommended by several people who work at the local hospital and I was never disappointed. He was always on time which is more than I can say for most services. I would send anyone I know there."

"A trustworthy auto mechanic? Get out! As incredulous as you are, read on, because I have, at last, found a place where honesty guides the pricing. I didn't think it possible. I'm glad I was wrong.
As I write this I'm wearing my Neighborhood Wrench shirt. They threw it in with my last repair.
My mother first discovered the Neighborhood Wrench when she bumped into Cheryl, a longtime employee at Foreign Motors West. After FMW had been sold to Herb Chambers, Cheryl made her way to the Neighborhood Wrench, where she's the face and voice of service for this tiny but wonderful auto repair shop.
Although they service all makes and models, they Specialize in Honda's and acura's. And lucky me, I had an Acura badly in need of service.
for the last few years I've been bringing my car to a large corporate garage in Chicagoland for competent but cursory service. They did exactly what they said would do, never did more or less, and prices were always competitive.
The Neighborhood Wrench, by comparison, puts a lot of heart in what they do. Although I brought my car in for what I would of thought would be a quick oil change, a quick check of my mileage revealed that it was time for a major service. They checked everything as proscribed by Acura for the major service and even discovered some broken bolts on my catalytic converter. Instead of recommending I replace it, a very costly option, they clamped it tight. They also found out that my battery was on its last legs (it hasn't been replaced since 2003) and replaced the rear brakes, which I had been told would need replacing on my last visit to the shop.
All in all, service was not cheap, but my car ran like a song and I left feeling like I had received good value for the money.
I wish I could pack up the Neighborhood Wrench and take it with me to Chicago. It is that good."

"I've been taking all my cars to Doug for many many years and I have not had a bad experience yet. Contrast that with my life before Doug mechanics where I can't remember EVER having a positive experience with a mechanic.
In my opinion the most important attribute of a mechanic is being TRUSTWORTHY. If you don't trust your mechanic, you'll always feel like you've been swindled because it is expensive to maintain a car. But Doug and his staff have never tried to squeeze more money out of me that they thought was important to spend.
On atleast two occasions Doug has provided a very inexpensive solution rather than recommending a more expensive solution.
And on one occasion, very similar to a previous poster, he sent me to the dealer because he knew they might honor an expired warranty on a particular problem. HAS YOUR MECHANIC EVER DONE THAT?
What Doug gets instead of a quick buck is a loyal customer... so much more valuable. Especially if you read this, and all of the other posts, and give him your business. Don't let local services like this struggle. We need people like Doug or we're all screwed. He has earned my trust and my patronage.
Doug does good work and stands behind it."

"I went to The Neighborhood Wrench based on Yelp reviews and I was not disapointed. My vehicle needed a 30K inspection and my dealer was asking $500 just to do the inspection, nevermind if something actually had to be fixed.
I left my vehicle at The Neighborhood Wrench the morning of my repairs before work. Dropped my keys in the door with a note. They performed a very thorough review of the vehicle for less than the dealership and that included an oil change, tire rotation, and some necessary repairs.
They communicated very well with me and called me before doing any repairs. My detailed invoice listed everything that was done and left me feeling good about my vehicle and the money that I had spent.
Honesty and full disclosure - you don't get that at every mechanic."
